To clear the confusion, cories cannot be pregnant. There is a term for it, but can't remember. I just see aquarists refer to this full abdomen full of eggs (as you are referring to)as "eggy." They are just eggs, not embryos yet!

Cories lay their eggs and then they are fertilized (or not) by a male cory in a courtship "ritual."

As far as I know cories are very prolific and hopefully you at least see them and the eggs.

There are quite a few cory breeder/connoisseurs on the forum who have much more experience than I do. They can share their tips.

 

Ok. I'm clearly oblivious. Is there any articales about this I should read? And I'm not sure if she is eggy at all.. is a cyst or tumor more likely?

 

I think Fish Em was just making a semantic note, that "pregnant" isn't the correct term for a cory carrying eggs. From what I can tell, it seems like cories breed pretty easily, so I think it's very possible and those do look like eggs to me.

 

Ok. Does anyone know long before she possibly drops her eggs? And what is the likely hood of a male fertilizing her eggs? And if a male does, how do I know?

I would say it looks like you may see fertilized cory eggs on glass or decor very soon! 👍

Some use their finger to gently roll the eggs off the glass to a small container to transfer to breeding net or other tank.

Eggs should end up or appear on the fins of the corydoras. They're really frolicy when laying. and will deposit eggs on glass and leaves.
You can pick up the eggs with a credit card scraping them up. Your best bet though is just leaving the eggs and hope the fry make it and make sure biofilm is established since you are just beginning. I had habrosus breed, fertilization takes place when the male kind've pins down the female, or fertilizes the eggs on the fins i forget, but i didn't have luck with the fry, i bought fry food and clearly overfed it...what questions do you have? hope the connoisseurs chime in....

 

I believe the correct term for your female is "gravid".
