Mixing Belem and Parvula?

899 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  kevinmichael77
Just had a question regarding planting Belem and parvula together. I'm looking to do a majority of the tank carpeted with Belem but I also have some parvula that I wanted to plant in the back for some height difference. Is this a bad idea? My concern is that the Belem isn't cheap and I'm wondering if they will mix together at all once they start to spread. If anyone has any experience or general knowledge I'd appreciate the advice.

Thanks

Ive grown the 2 and there's quite a distinguish in heights.

I purchased some from a member and I'm 99.9% sure he has the right belemn.

In his journal he posted a video of his scape and it's weird how he has some taller strands poking out on certain parts of the tank. Majority of it is short, but parts of it almost made it look like parvula.

My suggestion is not too mix the two. It'd be unwanted by most members bc of it being mix and knowing the ratio of how much belemn and parvula is in the mix if you decide to sell and thin it out...

I say to get parvula, grow it out full and trim the sections you want it shorter and leave the taller stuff for the back area.

Just my thought.

That species is in a different order. The Belem in question here is the hair grass Belem, eliocharis I believe.

Do you think cutting water bottles up and inserting them into the substrate leaving a bit of the plastic exposed would keep them separated? That way I could just do sporadic spots with higher growth. Not sure if the parvula would send out runners over the plastic if I left it 1/4-1/2 inch above the substrate. What do you think?

I tried doing a fairly similar setup in my nano. I bought plexiglass to try and nudge it into the substrate. It someone worked, but the runners still found a way to make it over to the other side.

Settled. Guess I just wasted money on a plant that's not going in the tank. Maybe I'll plant it in the yard.

Actually think I may have bought it from you Ebi on Tom's site. Prolly have the same source for the Belem as well. Tried sending you a pm but you box was full.
