Mist rises from the water (ooo, scary)... What is it?

1042 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Dempsey
So, I don't know if it just started now or I've only noticed it now, but every morning, when I lift the lid to feed my inhabitants, for a split second, mist rises from the water, then dissipates immediately. Is this normal? What is it?

I have a 10gal, a somewhat heavily planted tank, dose with the Seachem line of products (Flourish Complete, N, K, etc) slight algae issue (no more then normal), 15 or so shrimp (a dozen or so RCS and Amano), 105 Fuval canister, and a DIY co2 setup that is currently winding down (replaced every Friday) and now bubbles every 3-4 seconds.

Thanks in advance for the input,

Cento

Evaporated water? I don't think is poses a threat or is a problem at all. Mist is mist! A fog on the other hand...

Fog..... Have you seen that movie??

Your water temp is warmer then your room temp I'm sure. Just a little evaporated water/fog/humidity. That's all.
+1 on the Fog / Evap.

Happens all the time. Water that is warmer than the air will create a mist.
+2.
I opened the window next to my open top tank the other night and thought a thriller video was gonna break out

I guess fog would describe it more accurately....

Co2 you say jreich? I thought about that. I never thought it would visibly manifest itself that way though.

As for the temp difference, I have no heater, so the rooms' ambient temp dictates the water temp more or less (2 26wCFL's may change temp slightly). So I didn't think the temp's had enough difference to cause temporary visible evaporation....

Then again, I ain't Bill Nye....

Actually, 2x 26w PC's on a 10g could raise your water temps. Esp, with a lid on it holding in the heat.
