My 20 gallon planted tetra tank has started to grow either hair algae or green beard algae (web photos overlap?) on the older leaves of the crypts, swords and valisneria. I'm doing PPS ferts and DIY CO2 and have reduced the photo period to 7 hours. The plants are growing nicely and the fish seem happy. Neither my otos nor the pond snails that came with the plants touch the green fuzz. I tried nerite snails but they refuse to go on the plants. Even placing them on a leaf, they go right back to the glass or gravel. I would like to try amano shrimp but am concerned that they would just join the existing bottom feeders, which would be slim pickings at this point. I was hoping that this forum would have a tutorial summarizing the group's experience in which shrimp varieties consumed which of the many algae types. Also whether they eat algae from plants, substrate, rocks, wood, etc. That could be very beneficial for a newbies like me.
