very nice! any pics of it during the dry start?
I wouldn't put purigen yet if it hasn't cycled.
Interested choice of filters. I'm assuming you have them plumbed into 1 outflow and intake?

Thanks! No pics during the DSM since my bf did the DSM and he isn't a photo person. After 3 months of DSM, the tank should have gone through all of its Nitro, Ammonia, Ammonium, cycles. Water is crystal clear since the flood and have tested it just this morning before work. Everything is at zero :icon_mrgr

1 out 1 in per filter
Very nice setup. I love the field of grass you have! You get the best DSM results with dwarf hairgrass the longer you let it sit.

Thank you! I was told what I bought was Japanese Hairgrass and during the entire process it stayed pretty low and most if not all the tips kinda bends downwards so I have high hopes that they are indeed Japanese Hairgrass :) We'll see after a month with CO2.

It's been almost 2 days since flooding and no CO2 yet, been so busy with school and work. I'll try to get it tomorrow. I had to flood it because some weird fuzz started to grow on some areas, as with most long terms DSM's out there. Hopefully after a month with proper CO2 and regular fertilization it would get back to being fully green.

Now is the time to think about what type of fish I wanna home this tank to. Should be fairly easy adding anything to this tank now since it's fairly well cycled :)

Japanese hairgrass/E. belem/whatever else people call it tends to have those short curved blades from what I've seen when growing it both emersed and submerged. E. acicularis and E. parvula are taller growing and tend to have more upright, straight growth. These two types are the ones more commonly available.

Was the weird fuzz white? It's probably fungus. The older leaves tend to die out and the high humidity is perfect for fungus to colonize those leaves.

I'd go with a smaller schooling fish such as microrasboras, Sundadanio axelrodi, or ember tetras.
Nice setup, looking forward to future updates.
Started CO2 for the 1st time today since the flood Thursday night. Had a little accident that almost resulted in a lost of my finger. I am now traumatized :(
Welcome back, O leader of the 12 gal longs! I'm glad you didn't lose a finger, did the diffuser fly off from too much pressure? I've done that before.

March 31st UPDATE

So 2 weeks after flooding the tank + 24/7 CO2 @ 1bps, the lightly brownish and balled spot of the grass near the center of the tank bounced back really well. Cleaned up the glass from what appears to be a light fuzzy algae. Crystal clear water. No algae anywhere else. Mini Pellia grows extra healthy. The new shoots are very broad in size instead of narrow. Beautiful!

Hey there!

Nice tank! I have a very similar setup coming out of dsm in the next few days. During my dsm I used the same Finnex fixture as you have here. I think I'm gunna swap to a current satellite+ after the flood to avoid having to suspend the light. However, I like how you suspended yours. Creative!

I was wondering where you got that Scape sticker? Looks nice!

I wish you the best of luck with your iwagumi! Keep up the good work.

Oh and keep an eye out for my journal. I'll be posting it up this week sometime.

So 2 weeks after flooding the tank + 24/7 CO2 @ 1bpm
Sorry, 1bpm? That's not a lot of co2... you mean 1bps? :)

Excellent catch. Yes, I meant 1bps. Corrected it :)
Nice set up! I really like the minimalistic scape. I see you have the SCAPE sticker!

Did you make the leg risers for the finnex yourself?

Just imagine how long your co2 tanks would last if you could get away with 1 bpm and still get that nice growth ^^

Btw LOVE the scape, especially that unique rock formation.. which for some reason reminds me of a hand held bottle/can opener haha.
Very nice! This tank is extremely peaceful to look at :)
May I ask what your dosing regiment is for this tank? or how you plan on dosing?
