I'm looking at the Fluval 106 and 206 canisters for a 5 gallon tank. I know this is overkill but I want a canister I can hide so the 4' head height is a plus. I was wondering how much you can drop the flow on these filters. I don't want to be blowing the fish around such a small tank.

So anyone that has one of these. How low can you go?

Thanks,

There is a lever that you can adjust but it makes the filter hum louder and Im not sure if it is hard on the motor or not. You can adjust this to all the way off. It is used to shut off the flow before unplugging for maintenance, that's how I use it anyway. I would be a bit cautious about restricting the flow less than 50% for fear of damaging it over time. I think the 206 may be a bit rough for a 5g but I guess you could try it!
