Microrasbora or botia? I'd skip the Botia kubotai if that's what you meant and go with the pygmies.

Which would be more aesthetically pleasing? I'm concerned that three groups in a relatively small tank would be too much - too busy, not too high a bioload. I'm running a 2217 so filtration is not a concern...unless I add lots of snails.

The cories are bland but I understand they're entertaining, though not exactly why. The kubotais may be a great visual contrast with the cardinals or they could get lost against the plants.

I've read that cories can injure their barbels on Eco-Complete but the pics of pygmies I've seen don't really show any.

They live in different water levels so aesthetically, it should be fine.

Keep the water clean is the only preventative for lost barbels.
