Metering valve

Ok this is probably a silly question but it's my first regulator build so here it goes. My metering valve has 1/4" tubing hookups on each side. I know I can get the adapters to go to threaded for the solenoid side but can I place the 1/4" co2 plastic line in the other side?

Pretty sure you can w/ the correct hose insert and ferrule set..
gyroloc or equiv would be 4TI2 for 1/4" tube and 1/8" i.d
for soft PVC or Tygon tubing.. Other tubing it is not required..(nylon, polyethylene, PTFE, rigid PVC)
Should be the same for any like fitting

Yep, just like above. Swagelok # is: SS-405-2 (Stainless Steel Tubing Insert, 1/4 in. OD x 1/8 in. ID)

I usually insert these and then slip the same ferrule that the fitting already has with it, then just give it a good snug to tighten. No need for the usual 1 1/4 turns to tighten.

Would a smooth brass insert work?

You don't need an adapter for the co2 tubing side, insert the tubing and tighten it down.
Not even an insert In the tubing?

No. For the solenoid side you should need a port connector.
Oh wow I just saw the diagram on the first post. This is actually for a calcium reactor and it came with 1/4" polyurethane tubing. Thank you all for your help

One more question for you guys..... is it OK to use a short peice of 1/4" copper tube to go from metering valve to solenoid like so

Not sure, it may work like a port connector. Ideally you would want another 1/4 tube fitting out of the solenoid and then a port connector between that tube fitting and the metering valve.
Ok thanks. This stuff is quite complicated lol. I know my reef equipment somewhat decent but there are so many different ways to go with a diy regulator it kinda makes my head spin.

Thank you! I got one on the way

What the o/p has will work, as long as the tube is within the fittings design specs. What you posted is "safer" and more elegant.
That said, using soft tubing on the outlet side I certainly would put an inset in..
Seems foolish w/out it.. Ferules pushing down on the walls of soft tubing..
Chart above says it all..
I know "recommended" doesn't always mean "must use"..
