I have 3 feet deep tank (36 inches / ~90 cm) ..

This height is making it very hard to reach to bottom for any planting / cleaning etc. And this height is hard for light to penetrate as well. .

I want to make it 1 feet short. .

One option I have is to cut one feet from above..

But the other possibility I was thinking of is to make subtrate / gravel one feet high (12 inch / 30 cm). .

More height of subtrate could be good for roots I believe. .

So do you think it is totally bad idea to have subtrate / gravel 1 feet tall ?

I know it could be unusual but I am thinking of options to effectively reduce height of my tank. .

Please suggest. .

I think you would have anaerobic conditions with that much substrate. I'd advise u to google that for a better explanation than I can provide :)

Many thanks for your help and support matt. .

Today I gathered the courage and cut the tank by 15 inches from top !!!

Now the tank dimensions are (in the unit you measure) :

L × W × Depth

Feet : 4 × 2 × 1.75

Inches : 48 × 24 × 21

Cm : 120 x 60 x 54

Ltr : ~388

Us galon : 100

Now I need to know what type of plants and subtrate I put in this. .

Will have a separate thread. .
