I recently bought a 30" 65W PC Satelitte fixture and was wondering if I could use a 30" bulb at 96W?

If the fixture is rated at 65W, then you should only use a 65W bulb. Otherwise you run the risk of overheating and possibly starting a fire.

If you feel like chancing it, I'd be very careful and monitor the light closely.

If I had to guess I would say the 96 watt bulb would run at about 65 watts in that fixture and would look dimmer than usual. But, I doubt that it would overheat. If you put a 36 watt bulb in the fixture, that bulb would overheat, be overdriven, and probably have a very limited life. I may be very wrong about this though.

This is my GUESS too, if the ballast gives enough juice at start up to get it going.

The real question is will the 96 watt bulb physically fit in the fixture?
Next will be why? A 55/65 watt bulb will work best. Unless you happen to have a 96 watt bulb laying around.
