There is a place near my house that sells birds and bird supplies. They sell manzanita because people make perches out of them. They are natural pieces that look like the need to be cleaned. What do I do exactly? Should I sand down the branches to get off the excess bark? Like use sandpaper or perhaps a dremel? Then do I soak it to get rid of any tanins?

Thanks

soak it, then scrub it off with a metal brush. you'll figure out what needs to come off really fast. you can also pressure wash it but you risk blowing off small branches.
