I told my first graders that I'd bring in a few shrimp for them to see as a reward and was thinking of trying to keep them as a class pet. My question is, if I use a vase and a few shrimp with lots of plants, would malawa and cherries survive without filtration? I don't have an extra air pump or filter and honestly don't really have a place with an outlet that I can set them up. Any thoughts would be appreciated!:biggrin:

Yes, I am keeping lowish grade crystals in such a setup right now. Lots of plants is key. I would wait a few weeks after getting the whole thing setup before adding shrimp.

Thanks! I am going to use water from their current tank and some subwassertang and java fern and maybe some moss. I'll probably have to break it down before the winter or at least bring it home, but my students (and their parents) are just fascinated by the fact that I have pet shrimp
