I wanna make my tank setup ... uhhh... better? correct? right. thats it, i wanna make it right. i think it's kinda lacking at the moment. so i come to you for help...

here's what i've got right now.

30g hex tank
HOB 20-40g filter
heater (not sure of the wattage but came with the tank setup and keeps the tank at 78 quite nicely)
2x36watt kit from AHSupply.com
2 "DIY" CO2 Natural Plant Systems http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=8981&N=2004+113779

i have eco-complete substrate
buncha plants (can list if needed)
buncha fish (can list if needed)
some shrimp
smidge of algae (green spot on the glass)
big fat AWESOME piece of driftwood

i think the lighting is pretty good at 2.4 wpg and fitting more on top would be kinda diffucult.

what should i upgrade?

If everything is working for you, then nothing. Why spend more money if the plants are growing healthy...

Are you having issues that make you think you need to upgrade? The only things I can see you improving...not to say you need to...filter and pressurized CO2.

Are you dosing?

Again...if all is well...don't fix what aint broke.
Hi Ovenmit

You can add a pressurized CO2 system. That's the best mod that I can think of. Yeast/sugar CO2 is so inconsistent.

Are you following a fert plan?
my main thoughts were co2 and filter as well... guess i should included that.

co2 because i don't think i've got enough (just added the 2nd System so i need to re-test) and it's inconsistent

filter because my setup seems too cluttered... wires running everywhere, big black filter intake, two big co2 ladders...

i think i just want a more minimalistic "mature" looking tank...
You can add a cannister filter like the Eheim 2213 or the Eheim 2232/2234 Ecco. A Hex tank is hard to do a decent planted tank. It's tall and there's little surface area. A 40g breeder or a 50g is a much better solution. Their footprint is 36" x 18".

granted, but it was a free gift so no chances of "returning" or switching or anything. and it fits in the corner of my office perfectly
I would only upgrade the filter. I don't know how it would work on a hex tank but on my 29 gallon my rena xp2 works wonderful and I got it off bigalsonline.com for $75. A pressurized system would be good but if all your plants are doing good now I wouldn't bother.
