Hello all! Just curious to find out how often folks clean their canister filters?I have a cascade 1000 and a penguin 330 biowheel filter on my 55.Is this too much filtration?I have heard the biowheel "Could" remove to many nutrients from the water?Any thoughts?This is my first planted tank.My previous tanks have all been semi aggressive so i made sure to get plants that were easy.crypt,vals,java fern,moss,and a couple that i have forgotten the names of.Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I clean mine when I notice a reduced flow or when I just think it may need it.
I fail to see how a bio-wheel could "remove to many nutrients". The thing they do best is convert ammonia to nitrite to nitrate. In a planted tank, nitrate is one of the fertilizers you add for plant growth.
Now what they may be referring to is that a bio-wheel can give you a lot of gas exchange and remove a lot of CO2. This is not that big an issue, because you can always add more CO2, especially if you have a pressurized CO2 system.
