made a mistake!

so i did something without properly reading about it, i did it out of old habit!

here is the problem

i recently setup a 85g and a 8g ebi tank

i went out and got some cycle nutrifin and started the cycle....

my 8g is crystal clear after 3 days, my 85 is cloudy and nasty...cycle in progress

now i read that this cycle stuff is absolute crap, what should i do a big water change? or let it slide

oh and i am currently doing a no plant no fish cycle, since there is not many options in plants here until i order them online

any help would be appreciated

I have used the same product and while some say its crap, it will at least not harm the tank so no need to do a full water change, just be aware that you cant use this product for three days and then fully stock the tank, use it and add fish food or whatever to get the cycle started and just monitor the chemical levels.

the cloudy water is a part of the process. And just because the water is clear in the 8g does not mean it is cycled.

Oh really, i was sure its cycled since its clear!! Thanks for the heads up i will test my water tonight

Fish food to start the cycle? I have flakes? How much and how long should this last

Why would you want to cycle a tank before adding any plants? The plants prefer the tank not be cycled. They make very good use of ammonia in an uncycled tank.

Just plant the tank heavily, wait a week or two, and let the plants take care of the ammonia, while bacteria grow on the plant surfaces to help with the process. This is just my opinion, of course.

back in the day when i use to listen to everything my godly lfs would tell me this was the way it was suppose to be done. obviously he was an overpaid student that did not know the difference between a playstation and a aquarium

but i will take your advice and order my plants online tonight, hopefully ill get them sooner then later
