I've had several stems of Macrandra growing in my 55g, they took about 6 months to start giving me new growth. I'll admit most of that time was because I didn't have the plant where it needed to be. 2 months ago I moved them to a full light area and they took off. I started having some K issues so I picked up some k2so4 and 10% FE, I don't dose kno3 b/c I have enough in the tank already. As of the last week, the new growth on my leafs have started to turn green starting at the tip moving towards the stem. I have not changed anything with the tank except for the k dosing. They were a very nice vibrant pink/orange and are my only colored plants in the tank. I have no idea what's causing it to change colors. The rest of my plants are showing much improvement since adding the additional K

Oh the joy of keeping R. macrandra. I have had this plant turn several different colors in a matter of weeks for reasons that I can't explain. It started out bright red, then turned a lighter pink color, then back to bright red and after a heavy trim it went kind of a peach/orange color and the leaves almost looked variegated. It's one of those plants that puzzles me. It can grown like a weed and then if you look at it wrong it will start to wither away. I do believe after several attempts to keep this plant happy that it does best in lower kH water. Also after talking to some others I think it may help if its planted densely together. I will continue to try to figure out what makes this plant tick and what it likes and doesn't like.

What is your kH?
Kh is 4, I have them planted in groups. I started out with 1 stem about 8 months ago. I havr 6 growing now. Most in the last month. Mine likes direct high light and root tabs it seems.

You can see the color transformation in this one

So all of the parts that were turning green, have now started to become clear. Starting at the tips. Is this a calcium issue?
