Newbies seem to hesitate buying plants because they are uncertain how the plants will grow. Thus thought pics of my tank would help.
TANK is a 29 gallon 30 X 12 X 20 inches
It has been up since December 2008
SUBSTRATE
Dirt mixed with:
Potassium sulfate
Calcium sulfate
Organic charcoal (which brought the ludwiga back to life)
Red Bag Kitty litter
Kitty litter was a bad idea for when I move plants a few fish die. Thus sometime this year I hope to break down the tank and add mineralised substrate.
Topped with used flourite on the right and play sand on the left
Light is 2 - 20 watt T8 bulbs
1 Zoo Med ultras sun
1 Life-Glo 2
No Co2 injected. Gh and kh very low. Tap ph 8
Ferts
Seachem Flourish comprehensive
Seachem nitrogen
Seachem excel
Tetra Flora pride
The ludwiga and Star grass seem to be nitrogen hogs. Without it they get a lot of side roots. Probably would have been cheaper buying Plant nutrient from Big Al's but I bought a little here and there.
Right side (front to back)
Java fern v windelov, sags, 1 val v corkscrew, 1 crypt balance, Ludwiga repens, Wisteria, Hygro sunset, Foxtail v green.
Left side
Star grass, Foxtail v frill, and Java fern (on far left is a new addition)
Front
Here you can see the moss and 4 leaf clover, which is in the front, that is not doing very well.
