HI all,

I have gone there a bunch! You can find a good selection of fish and supplies.. BUT.. As I was checking out the corals I noticed and have experienced ALOT of Bubble algea, Aptasia and glass anenomies in the tanks! :help: Steve the owner is great and helps you a bunch, he is wonderful BUT kind of not worth it for LR or coral if your gonna end up with BAD things in your tank. :icon_frow :hihi:

I used to buy everything at lovelys pets .. from tank, filter, feeder ghost shrimps .. feeder goldfish, feeder guppies, fish food, dead coral .. and plants .. and .. you name it ..
Anyway .. one day may be 10 months ago .. I bought 4 electric yellows from that store and Steve sold them to me at $25/each .. and they are all pregnants with eggs in their mouth .. I planted to buy just 1 pair but ended up with 1 male/4 females .. because STEVE said that once the baby hatched and about 1" .. bring them back and he will take them for store credit and I can use the store credit for other stuffs that I need .. Few months later .. the babies reached 1" and I called Steve about it .. He said "we cant take them - SORRY" and I was like ummm .. "OK" .. From then on .. I dont buy stuffs there anymore. Not good for a store Owner to go back to their word like that .. ..

I started going to UncleNeds for whatever stuffs I need ...
I just bought my first aquarium there. I was there about two or three weeks ago doing some research on tanks, as I am a newbie. One of the staff members answered all my questions I had, for about a half hour. The store was really busy, but he helped me no problem. That's why I went back last week and bought the aquarium and stand. I'll be back for the rest soon. Nice variety of fish and supplies as far as I can tell.
I went to Lovely for the first time and bought a couple of nice fish. I went again this weekend and found highschool kids as help there. They had NO knowledge of plants or fish. The owner, Steve, does not seem to have a vast knowledge either. Uncle Neds seems to be the best in the knowledge area but his prices are a bit high. I will take the high prices any day and have the backing and knowledge.
I haven't had good experiences with them.
Last year I bought was supposed to be a juvenile gold nugget pleco for $40. As it got older the spots faded and I ended up with a high priced common pleco.
A few months back I stopped in with a my kids...The lasy behind the counter (Steve's wife?) was cold and acted like she was going out of her way to ring up the filter part I needed.
I don't need that kind of service.
too bad since their are so few shops around.
I agree with jweisman. I went ot uncle ned's this past sunday, and i love the place. I met uncle ned, seemd like a great guy with a lot of knowledge, very helpful.
I haven't gone to lovely pets in almost a year, they didn't have much of a freshwater/planted stock, and no one was helpful. And yah i will take my hour drive to uncle neds and pay a lil higher price tbh. My other option is Tropic Isle in Framingham, and i promised myself 3 years ago, then last year, that i will NEVER EVER go back there again! The arrogancy and rudeness of the owners is ridiculous! Stay away.
I have been shopping there for ages

As a newbie the lovely pets staff treated me great. I've been shopping with them ever since, and find that they help newcomers, and existing customers very very well. They do in fact take fish from their customers, to help out, and give store credit when they should, and they also stop what they're doing, even when busy to help a customer. I think they have great customer service there. There are some new employees that work the store, and no- i wouldn't ask the average part time high schooler heavy duty advice on a tank, but there is always someone there who can help-someone knowledgable. I've been to every good fish store within an hour or two of boston- and this is the best one if you ask me. I can't vouch for the reef tanks however- i do a tropical community tank. This is the best fish store i've ever been to- with knowledgable employees, and great customer service.
Hey, welcome to the forum. I must say I haven't made it to Quincy yet, but one of these day's I'll make the trip for sure...
Lovely pets is located near Quincy Center. It's somewhat are to find and there few parking spaces in front. The store is actually in the basement and it can get very humid down there. I've started going there when I first started my aquariums which was about 4 to 5 years ago. The last time I've been there was 8/31/2009 and I got 2 Galaxy Rasboras (Celestial Pearl Danio) and an Amano shrimp. I can tell you now that supplies at that store are over priced!! The prices for the freshwater livestock is alright. The Celestial Pearl Danio were only 5.99 ec. (2 bucks cheaper than Skiptons). Otos are only 1.99 there!! I looked around the whole store very carefully and i came across the lighting area. A bulb cost as much as 20g High!! We're talking about 50 - 60 bucks for a bulb from Current. Red Sea nano filter was about 18 bucks. That's all that i can remember from the top of my head. Staff was nice and approached and ask if needed any help.
Almost looks that way, doesn't it? ;)

I think i may have encountered the same woman. I had asked this woman if she had any Dario Dario's in stock. She asked me if it was a tetra... or a cichlid... and become quicky fustrated. Every time i said no she must have gotten the impression that i didnt know what a Dario Dario was. Then she proceded to call another employee and he was much more helpful and looked in his books for the fish but didnt find any. In conclusion, i dont think i'll go back there any time soon.

Well it's not what you'd expect from a specialty fish store that's for sure...
I still haven't made it there... maybe I shouldn't ;)

By the way... we skipped the December post ;)

Aww. I blame it all on you guys :) I just joined! But i would recomend going to Skiptons. They're my main source for almost everything :)
Yeah, Skiptons is great... I've never been disappointed with a visit there...
I have not met anyone on their staff who didn't know what they were talking about... Ok double negative, i guess... these guys really know their stuff..
They are my second stop for advise... right after this forum ;)

I went to lovely pets today and picked up this 1.86g tank which is about the size of a 2.5 but shorter. It was the same price as a 2.5 at petsmart with a glass canopy.(14.99) I also bought the glass canopy for 9.99 which came with 2 dividers and the canopy, but with no handle.

Also they have these T5 lights that run pretty cheap but were very low in watts.
20" (1)T5 8w for 29.99

In addition to that, I also saw a 9watt UV light for 24.99 that came in 2 sizes.
That's all i remember.
See less See more
Man Jack, Microcenter must be paying well haha
i wished they paid MORE!! Paychecks fluctuate alot
