Looking for rocks in all the wrong places...

Sorry, i was singing to myself...but seriously, it's middle of winter, snow on the ground and I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for some river pebbles...can I use the ones at like Michael's or Joanne's? in the crafting aisles? Gardening stores around me are setup for winter and christmas trees or closed for the season and the rest are too rich for my taste.

Thanks

I don't see why not? I used rocks from a local park :laugh2:

I picked up these at Home Depot.

Old scape attempt but this is what they look like. The whole bag cost maybe $15 and I basically have the whole bag left.

Home Depot/Lowes/similar usually have river rocks.
I'm envious of you in New England. You guys get granite and here we only have sandstone.
Look the rocks over real well before you buy. Some of them have some sort of coating on them to make them more appealing. I would be especially careful with the ones from the craft stores. I bought some really pretty ones once and some time later they had lost the coating and were kinda ugly. No harm was done to the fish though, but you just never know.
I'll second looking at Home Depot , the same company "Vigoro" has bags of pond pebbles which are somewhat smaller than the beach pebbles , they've gotta be washed off really well as they're coated with quarry dust . Our HD's down in NJ still have a lot of landscaping stuff , so maybe yours still has the stones . Don't hurt to ask .
Thank you all. I have Lowes and Home Depot nearby....one has to have them!!

In the Spring I will look for that granite
