Looking for a New car, What do you recommend?

I've been a Honda girl for a few decades now. Currently driving a Honda Ridgeline pickup (which is bigger inside the cab than most SUVs, and I adore despite the really low gas mileage compared to sedans).

If I ever do replace it, it will likely be with an Accord hybrid. Love the looks, good performance, super gas mileage, incredibly reliable, hold resale value like few other cars.

I have two Hyundais at the moment. Both 2008's and about 340,000 miles between them. Yes, we drive a LOT. I finally had to replace something other than normal wear and tear parts and replaced a caliper on one last week. I've probably driven a few million miles in my lifetime and these two cars were a prayer answered as I put my kids through college. The last thing I needed was a pair of lemons. One of my daughters just leased a new Elantra and loves it. It's a really neat car. Hyundai touts the 100K mile power train warranty, but the bumper-to-bumper is 5 years / 60K miles. I'll probably be buying at least one new Hyundai early next year.

I'd look into a Honda Accord coupe you should be able to find a fairly newer one for that price. Sporty-"er" look, good resale value, and good on gas. My 4 door gets on average around 29mpg and I don't drive like one should to conserve gas. Tires for Hondas seem to be more expensive tho.

I love my subaru and my mazda. What are you looking for performance wise?

VW Golf Tdi. All the energy savings of a hybrid, good looks, fun to drive!

Whatever you buy dont buy a chevy spark...lord that car......worst car ive ever owned I actually moved to a Ford...been pretty impressed with the focus. I literally got a brand new 20k car for 14.5 by the time I was done.

If its used make sure you have it inspected by someone you trust.

As for Hyundai I drove an accent for a week and felt like I was in a death trap. Its very cheaply made. Maybe their higher up models are better.

well the cars i am looking toward was the infinity g35/37 or a luxus is250/350 (not a gas save by any means -.-) and/or acura TL 2006+ more into these type of cars. was also looking at a lancer rally 2008+ also and they go for really cheap... under 60k miles clean title for like $14k or a salvage title for like $6-8k (which i try to stay away from)


reason i ask is i'm trying to rebuild my credit and need to have a car finance and a salvage title wont do that... i say under $10,000 is cause thats what i have on hand to spend but my plan's are to find a car with tax and papers done out the door for $10k or less... and finance for 3 years at $3,000 and the remaining amount owe is the down payment... if that makes any sense.. this way i would have my butt covered if anything does happen down the road say i loss my job then i still know i can pay the car off

I love my Audi TT quattro coupe. It's all wheel drive so I have no issues with bad weather, sporty, and very unique. Mine has the 3.2 L V6 and gets 27-28 mpg on the highway. Being the coupe, it has plenty of cargo space and you can lay down the back seats for larger items.

i second everyone who says VW. i have a 02 jetta wagon right now and in the process of getting a 89 cabrio. i wouldn't drive anything else.

Buying used is better for your pocketbook and the environment. A new car is useless value wise after it's driven off the lot unless it's a classic car or beautifully designed.

I own a repair shop and work on cars for a living. I can tell you right now to stay away from anything made by the Germans or the Swiss. Go with Asian cars such as in order- Toyota, Hyundai, or Honda. Trust me on this.

10K puts you into a used car. New is no go at the budget. I've had like 12 cars in the past decade and put myself through school working at auto shops. If you want a solid trouble free car that is cheap to own and operate (maintenance/repair) look for civics or corollas.

I highly doubt you will find a near lux car like a Lexus/Acura/Infinity for $10K that isn't trouble. Stay AWAY from German cars! Without a warranty and high mileage you are looking at $$$$ in repairs and maintenance.

Here's the thing, you might be able to buy the car but can you afford to own/maintain it? Not trying to insult you just consider the other things before jumping into something. Case in point, the Porsche Boxster market is soft right now. You could buy a 2000 Boxster S for $10K, but do you really want to pay $200 per oil change and $2000 in tires and brakes every year plus repair whatever breaks? Just food for thought.

I've been roll'n a Chevy Cruze Eco the last couple years. Its a 4cyl ya but the turbo helps get it out of it's own way when necessary and being a 6 speed manual keeps it fun enough for commuting. It continues to surprise me on how well it handles snow here in MI. In the summer I can push low 40's MPG between my commute which is less than half highway and my job which has me driving short distances between buildings much of the day. Those that are on the highway more and do less short trips claim upwards of high 40's to 50's MPG but I haven't seen that.

My wife drives what was MY Jeep JK 4door, and my other ride is a 1500cc

I don't know about your area but around the used vehicle market prices are pretty up there...

Coming from an automotive background, I agree 200% with what shangrila and prighello posted above. Most German/Swiss/American cars are pretty much worthless once they hit the 125k mile mark. Maybe not worthless but they then turn into money pits. A high mileage Honda/Toyota will outlast and, in most cases, outsell any other low mileage car.

I'm a die hard Classic Chevy/VW guy but when it came down to buying my son his first car, I reluctantly bought a used Accord. I honestly don't know how I went so long without a Honda.

i used to own a honda fixed that bad boy up to every thing... then sold it... lol but i know my way around cars i can fix anything from engine to bare bone so thats not the issue but i wouldnt want to spend 10k on a project car if you know what i mean.... yes i know a new car is out of the question but i dont think i want that new of a car any ways as i will drive the car to hell... lol... just wanted to know what cars you guys recommend and i can look into it and see if it peaks my interest...

none that VW bashing is true, i owned jetta (2001) with 220k miles on it, only thing that ever broke was the timing chain. up until i totaled it driving to fast. i have had 6 or 7 friends own VW's for years and never had anything go wrong.

that said my mom owned a honda, the transmission went out at 108k.

my dad owns a F-150 with 130k the only thing he has ever replaced is the alternator.

i worked in a couple auto repair shops (not that it makes me quailified to speak to anything) but there is a reason VW is the #1 selling car worldwide.

every car company has their draw backs and advantages, if you find a car that was well maintained, and has low miles its your best bet at a good car, ignore the brand (unless your looking at ford Pinto) every car has years that the brand would rather forget, even honda and toyota. it comes down to how you treat the car.


back to the OP go for that ACura TL, fun car to drive.

yea i seen a 350z also but wife wants a care with back seats for the kids xD or else i would have gone with a 350 xD
