Hello. Currently re-doing my 75g tank as I let the previous 'build' get away from me, and as such, getting back into my dosing regime. I use my Apex controller to dose DIY liquid ferts on a daily basis (alternating micro/macro days). Perhaps I'm old, or just forgetful, but I wanted to go over these numbers to make sure they sound reasonable.

Per Rotala website:

Macro Container - 50fl oz/1478ml

KH2PO4 - 7.82g
KNO3 - 51.31g

Dose 100ml 3x/week

Micro Container - 50fl oz/1478ml

Plantex CSM+B - 12.85g

Dose 100ml 3x/week

Assuming the above works - should be enough for roughly 5 weeks between container fill-ups.

Questions:

1. Will the macros dissolve based on the container sizes shown above?
2. Are you folks dosing anything else in addition to the above?

For reference, tank is a 75g, soon to be heavily planted community tank, CO2 injected, Apex controlled, 4x HO bulb lighting.

Appreciate any input and advice provided.

Thanks.

assuming you are using the rotala nutrient dosing calculator, i would suggest you scale down your tank size by at least 10%, accounting for the volume displaced by hardscape. and i see that you are using the estimative index to get the weight of macros and micros. that's all fine and well for a heavily planted tank, one where more than 70% of the substrate is planted. if that was your plan, go for it. if not, i would scale back each by a factor of 25%, especially if your tank is not fully cycled. use the "dose to reach a target" in the "i am calculating for" section instead of EI.

as it stands 22-4-15 would be your npk. for micros fe would be 0.6. all per week.

1. the macros will dissolve. the calculator will tell you if they won't properly dissolve.
2. i dose k2so4 for potassium. i mix lean kno3 and kh2po4, so need to add k. i also add some epsom salt for magnesium.

Since you're using a doser I'd recommend ignoring the standard dosing recommendation and treating it just like you would a saltwater tank's dosing plan. Dose throughout the day, while the lights are on, separate micros from macros by a couple of minutes.

I've seen much better results on my tank dosing every 2 hours during lights on instead of large doses spread throughout the week. Keeps the nutrient levels more stable.
