Looking for light suggestions on 180 gallon high tech tank. 72x24x24. Tank has 16" high canopy that they will go in. I want something night, but also don't want to pay $1000 for it either.
Check out www.reefbreeders.com for super high power leds with custom spectrum or Buildmyled lights. Both are good just depends how much light you really want and how high you want to hang them.
At a height of 30-40" it's going to be hard to get anything near even medium intensity light with LEDs. LEDs don't have great penetrating power >20", even the more powerful and expensive LEDs. T5HO's still provide a good option for deeper tanks, but they tend to be more expensive long term because the bulbs lose intensity and need replacing. So it's a trade off.
