Lighting Suggestions?

517 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Nlewis
Hi! I'm saving for a Betta and plan on having a planted tank for it. What kind of lighting do I need? Any brand suggestions? Plants I plan on having in my tank:

SubstrateSource Anubias barteri "Nana"
SubstrateSource Echinoderis bleheri
Marimo Moss Balls
Mini Moss (Java Moss)

Found all these on Amazon. I tried to pick some nice looking plants plus cover for my betta. Anyways, lighting suggestions? :/ I prefer to lean toward cheaper, but I'm willing to save.

My tank lid has built-in LED lights. Is this sufficient?

Not sure what size of tank you have or where you live but i have been extremly happy with the Fluval Fresh & Plant 2.0 ..
It is very well built, very waterproof, and its LED's have a 120 degree spread so it covers the whole tank very well.
The only downfall is that it does not come with a remote, not terrible but would be nice.
About 3 hours after plugging it in my Jungle Vals started pearling like crazy. IMO it is a very well priced light for a beginner low tech tank..
Usually the LED lights that come with a tank are not the right spectrum to grow plants, you want to shoot for around 6500K - 7500k..
My tank is a Tetra, 10 gal. tank. It has three LED light bunches. I turned it on and it appears to light up the tank well. I live in eastern USA.
I'm not planning on buying a whole new tank. :)
If you really want to go the cheap route then goto Home Depot or Lowes and pick up a $10 clamp light, combine that with a 13w cfl bulb and your done.
