Looking to setup my first planted Tank. I have had several tanks in the past, but never planted.

80 G Tank, which is around (48 x 18 x 23), I have eco-complete plant substrate, my filtration is a sump.

I would like to have the tank heavily planted, the problem is I don't know what type of bulbs to get or light for my system. My canopy only allows for about 4 inch light for height. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Your Lighting Question

Good morning Jim...

I'm "old school" in the lighting dept. and still use the watts per gallon rule. If you chose lighting that provides 1 to 2 watts of light per gallon of tank size and regularly dose some type of plant fert, you can grow most aquatic plants.

I like the standard GE aquarium plant bulbs. They're every inexpensive and last up to a year before you need to replace them.

A 6500 K, T8, 32 watt bulb works well. You'll need a strip to accomodate multiple bulbs, but three should work just fine.
