Well, I have my plants on an 8 hour photoperiod from 3pm to 11pm when I'm at work (five days a week). I was just wondering how detrimental it would be if when I was off work I pop the lights on 2-3 hours earlier which would only be 2 days a week.

Will it encourage algae? Will it screw with the plants growth?

thanks,

As long as it is still an 8 hour period, there's no problem.
If you're suggesting adding 3 hours=11 hours of light, then there could be an invitation for algae.
At least that's what I've found. I'm not always on an exact lights on/off schedule. Sometimes I put the lights on hours after I usually do for company coming, tank projects due,.....
