For a high tech system would 2x54 watt or 4x54 watt be better?

I can barely keep up with the needs of my 90g using 2-54w. But I do have an extra 54 sitting on the very back of the tank that's on for 2 hours a day. My problem is getting even lighting front to back. I won't raise the fixture since I can't stand the light that splashes the room when I do,

2 bulbs T5ho (on top of Tank) High
3+ TOO HIGH

1 bulb T5ho (4in above top) Low
2 bulbs T5ho (4in above top) Medium
3 bulbs T5ho (4in above top) high

4 bulbs 12in above the top get you HIGH

Thats why I use Glass tops and have 2 seperate lighting systems.
You can go with 1 and 1 or 2 and 2. On the 2 and 2 I would hang those though, or mount inside a canopy.
