Hi all, i'm new to planted tanks and just got myself a light fitting.

It's 8x39 Watt, and it's to go over my 4ft tank. Bit over-kill i know, might end up not runing them all.

The bulbs are HOT5's and the issue is that the actual bulb length is not 48inches! it's more like 30". The rest of the fitting has good reflectors along it's whole length and i was told would provide an even light across the full length.

So my question is will i get an even light across my 4ft, or will i lose light along the sides?!

You will probably end up with dark(er) end if the bulbs are all centered. If you can stagger them it shouldn't be as noticable.

unfortuantly they can't be staggered.

Anyone else have experience with this? the bulbs are 3ft bulbs.

It's a lot of light though, around 4.5 watts per gallon.

Will i still be able to grow light demanding plants on the sides or should i look at selling and buying another fitting?:icon_mad:

im looking to buy t5 HO fixture. IYO how do they compare to power compacts?
