Let me poke you with a needle!

I would like to promote a local event I may be participating in. I will if I pass my current class, I will be participating definitely! I will be taking my final practical exam later today!

I'm suppose to invite and drag in as many people as I can, but most of people I know are people from the internet (I know I know I am horribly withdrawn from the real world)!! I need to stick at least 20 people (but the teacher prefers at least 40) within the three days.

Anyways here it goes!

Let us practice our phlebotomy skills on you! Free to be poked with a needle, and FREE FOOD AND DRINKS!!!

You must be 18 years old or older! You must sign a waiver of liability, which basically means you give us permission to poke you with a needle and we aren't liable for any harm done.

We are not gonna do anything special with your blood, we just wanna practice finding and feeling all sorts of peoples veins and poking with a needle.

SO COME ON IN!!!

Monday October 18~ 7:30am-5:30pm
Tuesday October 19~ 7:00am-12:00pm

You guys should set up in front of New Belgium brewing. You should get plenty of takers with "reduced inhibitions."

Good Luck!!!

Poke ya with a needle!!! Don't worry, if you've donated blood before you know they use huge 16 gauge needles. We will be using 22 or 23 gauge which are much smaller! And you only need to be poked once or twice! But since you're in CA, I guess the trip won't be worth it lol!

Haha, well I don't think we are gonna do any blood alcohols. And I guess people would be more inclined to donate their arm to use, but we are gonna keep it clean!
Good luck on your practical!

I remember when I had to stick a newborn baby for the first time about 2 weeks after getting my phlebotomy cert (prior career, long time ago) and it was pretty scary! But, the adults aren't so hard - you'll do great!!!!

Thank you!

I would be quite scared sticking a baby too, but my teacher said usually the more experienced phlebs get to do babies now. So... I might be safe for a while. We stuck classmates last week and I messed up on my first person, I started probing. Cuz, I took Vet Tech class and when we stuck animals we probe a lot if we missed it so I kinda got into a habit of it!

Then I had to stick another person, she had very prominent veins that popped up so that was easy... if only everyone was that easy! :icon_redf Last week was also the first time I ever got stuck on my cephalic vein, even though I am extremely hard to find I always get stuck on my median cubital with a butterfly.

Ohh... I didn't just scare anybody off did I? I'm just being honest. Don't worry, I'll try not to give a big fat ugly hematoma!! Especially if you have big hose of a vein, you'll be fine!! Drink plenty of fluids!

Also, if you request a certain method of needle you want, we're suppose to comply.

Aww too bad :(

So I took my practical and I was so nervous my fingers and toes got really cold and felt frozen stiff :(

Well anyways, I think I did the venipuncture and bleeding time tests okay, just cuz I could see the person marking things off. But the fingerstick got me I think, cuz it was the first test and I just totally blanked. Practicals make me very nervous...
No way I would be of any help, even if I were close. I hate needles!

Whut?! :( My teacher said if we offered tasty food, people would come swarming by the thousands and let you poke them a bajillion times!!!
Kinda funny, but I pass out when I am poked with needles that draw blood from my veins. Otherwise I would be there to help you out.

I would rather pass on free food, if it meant being stuck & probed with needles. I had to have a procedure once where they go to the artery...arteriagram?{sp} Anyway, they probed and poked and all that. I wound up with a super black bruise as long as my forearm...no thanks!:icon_eek:
i like embroidery as well

hic hoc!

Well, today I managed to stick 12 people even though teacher wanted us to do 15, though some of my classmates were stuck many many times because not many people volunteer to come or if they did they only wanted the person who invited them to come. 11 of the 12 were successful sticks, better than what I was expecting...

I myself got stuck 6 times... so I am drained of at least 60mL (4 tablespoons) of blood. It's not that much, but I feel extremely tired and my fingers are really really cold right now. No bruises, but my arms are tender and sore :(

So join me tomorrow if you can. Please come 1 hour before closing time, because teacher may let us out early again, and I don't want people to showup and then we aren't there.

Sleeeepyyy....
I have dying people try to refuse IV's... Good luck suckering healthy people in to do it...

Seriously... We had to do it over and over on each other in medic school. I am very particular now about who starts IV's on me. Of course we had a thousand clinical hours and a year of classes to get all of our starts in... can't very well poke each other 20-40 times over a few days...
Yea, it was hard to get people to come in. Some of my classmates were pretty successful bringing family members and friends. My teacher said this is the first time the attendance has been low. She said usually food would bring people in!! :(

But anyways, I totally understand if people don't wanna get poked. Couple of the ones I had done on myself did kinda hurt. Of course, I don't know how bad mine are because no one told me if it hurt or not, cuz everyone wants to be nice.

I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow and Wednesday, since I will probably be poked again and again on the same spot. My arm hurt if I hold my arm out straight or if you touch it... from being poked like right on the same exact spot since people can only find my cephalic vein. I guess I could let someone do my hands, but everyone who had IVs done keep saying how painful and how it bruises easily and I got really scared since I'm not very pain tolerant.

I have like track marks on where all the needle holes are, everyone was joking how we all are druggies because them. lol

Well no one came, I couldn't convince my parents either haha. I don't think wanted to drive up here anyways. I bought a small tray of Chick-Fil-A Spicy Chicken Nuggets as my food donation... it was gone in a flash!! Some people let people poke them over 20 times through out the 3 days!!! I myself got poked 9 times in the three days. Uggggghhhh.

It was very busy yesterday. I guess cuz it was not early in the morning!

Anyways, I managed to stick people 23 times, with two of them being unsuccessful. I start my clinical rotation after Thanksgiving break. So yea, just so you all know if you are getting blood drawn anytime between Today and December 14 in Fort Collins, Loveland, Greeley, or Longmont you might be seeing one of us. Soo, don't think you can escape!!! Yaaaaaaaaarrrrrr :)

I guess you are safe if you aren't having your blood done in one of those cities..

Good Luck with your new endeavors. Just act like you've been doing it for 10 years. They won't know.
Why thank you. I hope I can do it, I'm a little slow. lol But blame it on the gloves, I keep ripping them every time I put them on.
