Has anyone used these lights and had success with planted tanks? How would I mount them? I plan on having them mounted on my wall hovering over my tank. The ones I see for aquariums are meant for reef setups and are expensive. I'm wondering if i can use the flood lights they sell at Lowe's. I have 2 planted tanks that req med to high light.

affordable can be different for two people.

when i was shopping for LED's, my budget was $300.
i went with a fixture from buildmyled.
they just started the build and i should be receiving it shortly.

if you tell us more about what kind of tank you have and a price range, i'm sure someone would be willing to help you. there's also a thread floating around with par values for led's somewhere.

This is led household bulbs, you could do something similar with par bulbs i think.

Here's a bad photo of my setup. It's a 58 gallon with two par38 bulbs from Lowes. Had to raise the lights because I was getting alot of algae even with CO2.

awesome gooseneck mounts. where did you find those?

PAR bulbs come in a variety of color temperatures so try to get those with 6500k or thereabouts.

If i remember correctly, I got the mounts from coral compulsion. The bulbs are supposedly 5000k.

here is my led grow/flood light

its installed on a desk lamp with a swing arm so the light could be adjusted to face nearly any direction.

Any one?

Single leds don't provide enough red light plants need for optimal growth.

And it will skew how colors of flora and fauna appear.
