I am researching a lighting upgrade. I have a 40g tall planted tank. Which would be better for plants? i really don't want to use co2.
the LED I was looking at is a Marineland with these specs
24"-36" - (8) 1 Watt daylight LED's, 4 Lunar LED's, 600 Lumens PAR/LUX at 24"(which would be the bottom of my tank) is 19/1750

OR---
this one...it's Marineland too and says it has 42 LED's at 4.62W per fixture. 990 LUX and 310 Lumens. Could I mount this in the light strip that fits on my hood?? And would it be too much light for a non-co2 tank?

OR---
the t5 would be 2x24W

Any input is appreciated.

T5HO lights produce so much more light that they aren't really good on any tanks less than about 24 inches high. For lower tanks T8 or T5NO make a lot better sense.

Ok. I have 1x20W T8 LifeGlo 6700K bulb on a 24" high tank. If I add another T8 bulb what spectrum should I get? My goal is to increase my lighting due to the depth of the tank and wanting to be able to grow a wider variety of plants, but also not to have to use C02.

I should probably mention that I will be changing my substrate from gravel to Fluorite....if that makes any difference in anyone's opinion.
