I kinda had an idea, cheaper alternative to black sand(since 3M is hard to find)??? I crushed up some, you could make it any size you want it then sift though it. Too rough you guys think?




What about other rocks you guys think, maybe slate or something?

Yea, a person would probably be better off using something like Black Magic media blasting media. If they didnt have to worry about bottom feeders, what about plecos, snails and shrimp? (planning on having them in my new tank)
Should be ok for them, but consider you might want to add bottom feeders later.

Also, if you have an acrylic tank, the lava rock will scratch the dickens out of it.

Yea, its acrylic. :icon_eek: If I do something like this ill have to be careful, but it needs buffing right now. Ill do it before I set up with FW though.
