1. Yes, but the two will probably get mixed you will never be able to separate them again.

2. Not on its own, but any substrate can accumulate fish mulm that will cloud the tank when agitated.

Some of it is in powder form. Will the laterite disperse the powder in the water?

The manufactures says to rinse it. Do you rinse it?
