I have 5 kuhli loaches in my 55 gallon. There is one prime spot that they all enjoy cuddling in until recently I have noticed that one of them has been forsaken and instead spends all its time in the corner of the tank, just sitting there doing nothing. Does anybody have any reason that this might happen? It is a pretty cramped little hole, but they all seemed to fit. Is it because he has an antisocial disorder? Is it because the other ones are makin babies and he was killin the vibe? Is it because he has bad gas and the others can't stand him? I just want to help that little guy out.

Simple... Nobody and I mean nobody (kuhlis included) likes a 5th wheel. But seriously what Monster Fish said, is it showing any signs of illness or stress, is it eating? Could be a rebel kuhli and is just striking out on its own.

I would attempt to stimulate the fish, either by floating food to the corner to see if it eats, swishing a tong or net nearby to see if moves, if it moves sluggishly. Check its respiration maybe, how fast are the gills moving? I don't knowuch about loaches. I know they can display strange and social behavior (sleeping upside down in full light, etc) so don't get overly alarmed but concern is understandable. Try to peek in at night. If its busy and out of the corner, I wouldn't be too concerned. Maybe it just had a spat with a more dominant tankmate. Good luck! I hope it works out for you both :)

Disease/infection is a possibility of course. For me, quarantine would follow if the fish wasnt moving from the corner after 24 he's, but that's me.

Sorry for resurrecting my old thread,
They've all been healthy for the last half year and everything is going great, all 5 are still alive and crazy and they're coming up on their 3rd or 4th birthday now!
As for the outcast, he is still a little strange, I've never noticed any damage to him, or any ill effects, I just think he likes being out a little more, like the antisocial disorder is real...
