Well, here goes. My first journal, but my second tank. My first tank was such a mistake that it currently sits empty awaiting my next adventure. Decided to wait on creating a journal until I had something that didn’t look absolutely horrible (tank #1 was hideously ugly).

The theme on this started out as “Big Box Pet Store”, as all the plants and equipment were purchased from Petco or PetSmart. The only things that weren't are the CO2 gear, Cichlid Stones, and a school of C. habrosus. I was also originally going for a slanted slope up in the background plants (from left to right), but as you can see I haven't trimmed the ludwigia this week to keep it that way.

Anyways, current fauna/flora:
Dwarf Hairgrass
Java Fern
Alternanthera Reineckii (is there a common name for this?!)
Needle Leaf Ludwigia
Crypt Wendtii
Anubias
3x Otocinculus (hoping to replace with Zebras in the future)
10x Corydoras habrosus (love these guys!!!)
Current Pictures (about 2.5 months from start):

Added a couple of cichlid stones. Waffling between a pair of Apistos or a school of Blue-Eyed Forktails as a feature fish.

I absolutely LOVE my C. habrosus. These fish are awesome!

Day one, simple flat layout with a couple pieces of Mopani to break it up and some river rocks for some reason I haven’t figured out yet.

Maybe I should have done a DSM, this is like watching grass grow.

A few days later added the Java Fern, Anubias, and A. Reineckii. Also added a really horrible DIY CO2 kit from Drs. F&S. I highly recommend AGAINST it.

Almost a month later and added the Needle Leaf (barely visible behind the wood).

Just over a month later and added the Otos.

Almost 2 months in and finally a real CO2 system!!!

All indicators are GO!! (Don’t know why, but I love this view)

Any advice for "cleaning" java fern? As you can see from the below pictures, I've got a mass of yuck on some. I think it's a mix of algae and an algae wafer that I threw in before a trip that my Otos left to rot. I used a toothbrush on the needle leaf and hairgrass (and future trimmings will get the rest), but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just cut the java fern.
