Hello All,
I am breaking down/ restarting my 20 Long with an Eheim classic (2211, I think). I want to keep my biofilter alive. On this model the intake and output are the same size. I am wondering if I can connect them in a loop and if so for how long?

Or, would it be better to just put the in and out in a 5 gallon bucket for the time it takes to get back running.

Considering the difficulty of getting the ends off, I would go for the five gallon bucket as being easier. What you want to avoid is no air going to the bacteria and then if you are talking several days, you want to keep the bacteria a bit of ammonia to feed on. They don't starve very quickly but no reason to risk losing a bunch. If you are going for longer term, some fish in the bucket might serve both to feed the bacteria and to hold the fish .
