Just got a pair of A. Cacuatoides

Didn't realize how small they were. They're so awesome and the orange is just eyecatching. You can see his dorsal from across the room and he's not much more than an inch long.

They will get bigger ;-) and prettier!

I am going to be making a tank just to house some :)

Hi ZLogic,

I have a pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides 'Triple Red' in a 10 gallon that have bred 3 times for me. They are good parents and my last batch I ended up with 25 fry. Here is a picture of a Juvie male that is about 3 months old when the picture was taken; much of the yellow markings are now red.

Beautiful! Looking to add a pair of these down the road. Gorgeous fish.
I love my Orange Flash Cacas. I currently have two batches from the same parents. First batch are about 2 months and the second batch are about a month old. I plan on trying to raise and breed more species of Apistos in the future. Congrats on the awesome fishes.
Hi dBlauj,

The first time I saw good looking specimens of A. cacatuoides 'Orange Flash' the color was so brilliant I almost couldn't believe my eyes!
I got them from Aqua Imports in Boulder. They had about eight pairs of cacs, 2 pairs of agassizi and a pair of viejiea(sp?). They had the orange and the red cacs for $44.99 per pair.

I'm working on pics, it always says the file is too larger or shows up as a question mark in a box when i submit. All i have is my phone, no comp or camera lol.

My male doesn't have the spikey dorsal like that, his is tall and even all the way across and a solid bright orange. They're in a 50gallon with 8 lemon tetras and 3 zebra loaches. Need some algae control for this tank now...

Hi ZLogic,

A couple more shots of the fry. The first one is a small group of juvies with a couple of males and the second is an immature pair.

Wow, they're so yellow. At what age do they start to turn more red? I was told these were the double red ones he had but there is no mistaking the bright orange.
Hi ZLogic,

Typically at about 6-9 months the orange/yellow starts becoming more and more reddish; this one is about 5 months old.

How many can you keep in a 29g? What's the price on them?
A trio will do well in a 29g
More than one trio can exist, but only if you are experienced with dwarf cichlids.

Is that a Cory in one of the shots? Do you have Corys with mating pairs of A. Cacatuoides? I'd love at least a pair in my 40 breeder but have been hesitant due to the potential aggression of mating Cichlids toward other bottom-dwelling fish.
I give up trying to post pics.
