Just a quick hood/top Question...

Is the glass top needed...Nothing to jump out (Plants jump..??) ?? Is the evaporation that much more without one...?? :confused:

You will get more evaporation. I don't run one on my 40b, 10g or 5.5g. I don't want to have to clean the tops. It all comes down to personal choice. If I had young children I might think otherwise but my kids are older.

Thanks...On my marine tanks its a necessity, but I think Im going to go without one on my new planted tank...
Tops are good, tops are bad depending on the situation. I go with open tops to let the water evaporate which helps with cooling the tank. But then I also go with open back canopies to keep fish from jumping. No fish, no jumping! But then kids are a hazard sometimes. Animals like dogs or cats can put out a tub full of stray hair to wind up in the water. Takes a bit of thought to decide if they are good or bad for your setup.
I like topless. My wife insist the top must stay on....
