I just bought a JBJ 30" single tube fixture that contains two fans. I guess I should have done more research before buying because after reading the reviews on the forum I see everyone has the same problem. I read some post in the DIY section that describe how to hook up magnetic levitation fans to an external power source but those posts seem to be from a couple of years ago. Are there any new quiet fans that will plug right into the fixture without cutting and splicing the wires. I hope there is an easy fix to this problem.

Have you try just disconnect the fan, I saw a JBJ unit at my LFS and they have all the fan disconnected, it seem to be working fine. Becareful though to make sure thing don't overheat too much, this is just a suggestion.

I thought about just disconnecting the fans seeing as most single tube 30" fixtures do not have fans but I do worry about it overheating.

I would get rid of the fans. I have a 2x65w 24" unit that I removed the fans from. I only run one bulb so it doesn't get too hot.

just swap the fans if it's too loud for you. i have the 4x65 and it's quieter than my nova extreme fixture which has 1 fan

you want to keep the bulbs cooled, or you lose par. they perform best in a pretty small temperature range.

Did you replace the fans or are they the originals?

Hows it working out for you on the JBJ? Any noise? They may be under warranty.

I took all the fans out of mine and also the splash guard....workin' very well. Its as silent as you are going to get.

i'm still using the originals. i was going to replace them when they died, which i'd expect to be sometime over the next few months since other people have em die young. i'm on month 5 with the fixture i think.

I have a 48 incher. No heating problems at all. I took off the splash guard to keep the air circulating. Ive had the fixture for 2 years now.
