I keep having problems with Java moss. It tends to pick up detritus and starts smelling swampy. Both my 2 display tanks are set up for modest flow, a strong flow wouldn't be appropriate. Any suggestions?
If you're going for a tufty looking ball just use the turkey baster to squirt water through the moss to dislodge the detritus and do a small water change. Also polishing floss in your filter when you do this can help remove detritus. I have a ton of overgrown java moss and I do this frequently. I also picked up a marineland polishing internal canister and it has been a godsend for this particular situation (pun totally intended).
