Java Fern Question

I attached a photo of my java fern which has grown out of control. I am wondering if the whole plant will die if I were to cut the rhizome and re-plant it elsewhere in the tank. While it's growing really well it's just become to large and needs to be moved.

What's the story do you think the whole plant dies if I cut it?

I can't tell by the picture, are you just floating it? Mine is only in a 10g. It's starting to take over the tank.
Cutting plants into bits is how you increase the number of plants. Many plants perform better if pruned more often. Cut the rhizome and move the excess!
Cutting the rhizome won't kill the fern.
No it should be fine. Java fern is a funny plant. I had one in my 75 and eventually got to the size of a basketball so I then put in my 125 and over the next 3 years shrunk down to like 4 leaves and then put it back to my 75 and now it's exploding again.
Cool, I will relocate it, thanks guys!
Good info. I was wondering the same thing the other day. My Java Fern hasn't exactly overgrown it's tank, but it's on it's way. Now I know what to do when that happens.

Thanks!
Ive cut my rhimezone to a one inch piece one time, and new plantlets still came off it
