Java fern and Driftwood

Good morning Black...

I have to say, I've never attached Java fern to commercial driftwood. I have used black sewing thread to attach it to very porous pieces of lava rock.

The best by far is to attach it to pieces of driftwood from local river and pond or lake beds. The more porous the better, because the very thin, black roots of the Java fern can really work their way into the wood.

Go for the driest, oldest and firmest piece. Those are the furthest from the water. Use rocks to weigh down the piece or float it. Either way, this fern will grow well.

Oh, please observe local laws prohibiting this kind of activity if there are any.

You can attach it to anything. The rate of growth is determined by the conditions of the tank, not what it's attached to. It will keep growing weather it's attached to something or not.
