I'm planning to make an iwagumi layout + crs for my 10g tank. But I just notice that once the HC are fully carpet, substrate will be fully covered.

So now I just realize I bought 13.2lb of Fluval Shrimp Stratum for nothing...?

shoulda bought like eco-complete or alike for $13 instead of $45 lol...

what you guys think? does substrate really matter for full carpet iwagumi?

the shrimp stratum is very light, but will allow a carpet to grow. Eco-complete is a bit large.

You could always mix the stratum with sand, which will help hold in the plants.

One of the big reasons that people use the shrimp stratum is to lower the pH which you probably still need with the CRS.
