And it's inconclusive...where are you guys getting the red clay and what kind EXACTLY to mix in with the mineralized/or potting soil.

I have read so many different types it's hard to choose which one. I have a MGOPS tank already but I am going to start a new one (60 gallon) and want to add clay to the mix this time and figure out if there is a difference.

Also, for future searches, what kind of kitty litter are you guys using and where are you getting it- how can you be sure it's chemical free (other than it clearly saying 100% natural ;p) I may add this to the mix too, just because of the cation exchange or so it's said.

Capping with Black Diamond Blasting too.

Thanks for the help!

If you have a Michaels arts and craft store nearby, I've found Mexican potting clay there. I've used Hartz PH5 in the past. I found that at the dollar store...

Anyone else using the clay from Michaels?? I called today and the uniformed employee claimed they had terra cotta clay, is this what you've been using? And to anybody else that have purchased clay from Michael's, is everything going well?

I may just go via online, but Michaels would be faster...

Any input on kitty litter is welcome :)
I found this exact brand at my local store.

I haven't used it yet but I've seen people using this stuff...
For kitty litter, go to walmart and get the special kitty kitty litter that is unscented and no additives its a red bag I think. Or you can go to a tractor supply or a place like autozone and use oil dry which is the same stuff.
Back in the 90s, I set up a tank using the Hartz pH 5 stuff.

Seemed to work fine, but I can't really remember many details or anything.
