You shouldn't remove the trim, because that is the support for the glass. If it comes off easily, it should be ok, as long as the frame trim isn't broken in half or something.
Issue with my 10 Gallon tank
This may be a dumb question to some readers.
Okay I have a normal 10 gallon tank. It has the black plastic around it on the bottom and top. The bottom black part comes off easily, i guess the adhesive is all gone. I can take that part off. Which got me wondering if i can take the top part off, is that even possible? It seems so hard to get it off. Does anyone know how to do it properly without breaking the tank? Please help someone if you have an answer ;]

The bottom part can come off, it seems fine. I just like the clean look, without the black trim. So i was wondering if the top part would come off. Maybe your right its there to support the glass. I asked here before if the plastic trim could be taken off a ten gallon and got numerous "yes" replies (you might can do a search on the threads I've started and find it). Don't have any idea if it'd be a good idea with larger tanks.
As to how to go about it, ya' got me ~ haven't attempted it yet. I bought some industrial strength silicone (GE RTV109 I believe) just in case I screw up the seams and end up having to clean every bit of old silicone off and putting just the glass back together. That stuff is supposed to be extremely strong, so surely would hold a ten gallon together. So if anyone else has done it and can give pointers and tips, I'm all ears, too.
