Island Mash 29 Gallon - Re-Done!

5648 22

Just finished setting everything up and got it mostly planted. Still not 100% on plant placement or if I should add/remove some more. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Plant list-Microsorum trident, anubias/anubias petite, blyxa japonica, bucephalandra, Java fern, crypt Wendtti? Fissidens, Christmas Moss, bolbitis heudelotii, Althernanthera Reineickii 'Mini, and Hydrocotyle Japan

It has a Sunsun 302 and a planted+ 24/7, with eco complete and Carib sea gold sand

Not sure what to add fish wise, I was thinking a school of some kind with otos, dwarf corys, shrimp and some other things.

I'll post some more detailed pictures tomorrow

Well Crypt Wendtii gets too big to be on that hill. Gets about 7-8" tall and 6-7" around.
But that blyxa in the back corner needs more light than it will get there(likely) and if
you added some more sand there it would be a good place for the Wendtii. Crypt Petchii stays about 4" and would work on the hill.
The one/w the yellow trim on the leaves is a land plant. Might work in an HOB however.
Looks good even before it grows in some.
Sometimes when I set one up it just won't work that way and needs to be done over from the start. But more often it looks good till I mess/w it cause..well this little part
right here doesn't...
I'd let this one stand as is for a while and see how it works out after some growth.
I think you have a good start.

Your choice of course, but at this stage of a new tank it could be to your advantage
to let things grow for a while to see which plants favor your light/fert combo that you are using in there. No guarantee all will make it.

Wasn't feeling the other driftwood at all and decided to replace it. Still not 100% on the whole hardscape.
MAybe it just needs to grow in more and it will look better?
I feel like my plant placement might be the problem. Anyone have thoughts on that? I'm trying to go for a bit of the jungle look

Im planning on getting some pellia/riccia for the rocks and some weeping moss for the branches on the wood.

Started Stocking with fish yesterday
15 ember tetras
a pair of Apisto c. double Reds
2 bumblebee gobies
6 amano shrimp
They all seem to be settling in well enough.
Still thinking about getting some bottom dwellers but I'm not quite sure what yet.

Also starting to get some algae thats appearing much faster than I'd like.
Mostly hair/thread/fuzzy. Hopefully I can get that on lock

Picture dump time. Everything is growing in, albeit slowly. Theres been a bit of improvement with the hair algae, still have some BBA on leaves.
Added a calico bristlenose from another tank.
I wish I had a decent camera, all my pictures have a terrible blue tint to them :icon_frow

Came home from a camping trip today and found lots of little Fry!
Not sure exactly what I should do with them because I have no other tanks to put them in. Any suggestions on feeding them and techniques?

And a quick n dirty FTS

Overdue 2 month update! Recently moved to Seattle so I had to tear it all down, unfortunately I didn't snap a last picture. I had left it in the care of my roommates for almost 2 weeks and it was quite overgrown. So much duckweed and hydrocotyle.

Moving was a bit rough on the fish, I lost my male Apisto a day after getting here. On the bright side 2 of his offspring live on and are about 2 months old now!
Also almost lost one of my anchor catfish. It somehow slipped by unnoticed when I was emptying everything and survived in the substrate of the empty tank for the entire trip! :surprise:

Have the tank all set up again with some new wood and rock, though I'm still not satisfied with some of it. Mainly the right side and the background. I bought a couple red tiger lotus, one in the back middle, the other behind the big rock.

I'm going to add a bunch more bolbitis on the back left. Any suggestions on other background plants I could add? I think aponogeton crispus red could look really good.
Should I use a black, white or frosted glass on the back of the tank?
