Yes, it looks like staghorn algae. Black mollies will eat it if the molly is hungry and not fed anything else.

In my experience overdosing Micros causes Staghorn Algae to appear. Just something for you to think about.

It does, it just takes a few days to die off. Mine turned a purple color for a couple of days, makes you think you have a saltwater tank.

interesting observation... I have just recently started seeing this type of algae/hair algae and have upped my micros. Maybe I'll turn them down and see how the tank does for some time
