Hi. Well, I would like to use my now fish free, 55 gallon tank to hold some low light plants in until I can get their permanent tank set up.
They should only be in the 55 for about a week, maybe two at most.
Crypt species mostly. Possibly some anacharis.
I'd use the 48", 80 watt fixture that will be going on the permanent tank with them later on.

I've been feeding the 55 with ammonia to keep it cycled and it has a good nitrate count in it still.

Do you think they will be ok in it for a short time?
Or should I put them in a large plastic bin with a double 20 watt fixture I have?

They should be fine for a week or so in there. Just make sure you still have a heater & some circulation in there. An airstone under the heater will spread the heat around & provide enough circulation.

Thanks for the reply.
The tank has been up and running with filters and heater after the fish were sold. I've been keeping it cycled while I decide what to do with it. :icon_conf

I just have to do a water change to get the nitrate level down. It's now at 40 and would like it at 10.
I'd hate to have the plants start going into a bad state of health while they wait for their permanent setting.

Thanks again.
