I have had this plant for at least 3 months now and it is actually growing well.
I was looking for its scientific name and discovered its supposedly a house plant! Is this actually Purple Waffle and if so how is it still alive?

Yup, that is purple waffle plant.
A lot of non-aquatic plants can live under water for quite a while but will eventually rot.
