Is anyone else getting tierd of....

I have a question for everyone that visits the shrimp section.

Is anyone else getting tierd with the new topic every day asking about shrimp and fish?

I'm sorry if it comes off as rude, but there must be a few 100 topics about it.

Whats the best advice? READ READ READ?

Maybe I'm just loosing it, but most people don't seem to understand shrimp are at the BOTTOM of the food chain.

Does anyone else feel this way?

i feel the same way about practically 75% of new threads in the "specific aspects of planted tank" category :(
I usually just skip over those questions that get asked and answered all the time. Someone will come along and tell them to do a search, or do a search for them and post the results.
On the other hand, if we would only allow brand new questions, the forum would be pretty dead.

If you already answered a question, do a quick search and link to that answer. There are always a couple of opinions that haven't been expressed yet, so let's not shoot down every repeat question.

Like yoink said - if it bothers you, just go on to the next question. Just replying "Search" or "Read" is less helpful than giving someone else the opportunity to respond.
I couldn't agree more with Wasserpest. I own a fish forum, and I love all the newbie questions. We have a search function, but it's rarely used. Most of those questions come from people new to the hobby and I know when I was new, it was very nice to receive helpful answers without someone telling me to "just do a search." Not that there's not a time and place for that, but sometimes this is a person's very first visit to any type of online forum, so they're not yet familiar with all the etiquette. The boring old questions give our other folks a chance to spread their wings and post answers too, so it's all good. Just my $.02.
If you are new, and are reading this, you can feel free to ask any newbie questions about shrimp on my forum www.planetinverts.com/forum :)

Couldnt agree more without the new questions this forum is dead. There is no set answers to all of the questions. Different people may try different things. Fishes and shrimps have different personalities. ONe thing might work for you but might not work for others. When I was a newb I appreciated all the people that give some insight info on the different options on planted aquarium rather than the smart a** that respond with a just search or pretend they know it all. If you dont like it just skip it nobody is forcing you to read it.

Ohh no Wasserpest, I agree with you! I was more or less as wondering what others felt. I feel that the can shrimp live with fish has gone, way over the point where people are asking and its common, but multiple topics are started each week about it. There must be at least 2 on the front page of the shrimp forum, if not more every time you look. Sometimes they're right under each other.

I kinda was wondering what others thought and if I was the only one. I have no problem with people asking questions, but to me it seems like these ones are too too too common, as stated above.

That being said, I don't want to discourage posting, but would like to support reading a little more before posting, don't search, just look at the first say 10 topics that are on the main page of the forum.

Sorry if it came off a bit confusing.

Thanks,

What's wrong w/ him giving a link to his invert forum? Some ppl may not know about it.

Fish Newb do you own this forum? Last I checked you didn't.

Basic forum eddiqute says you should not post links to another form that would take a member away from this site. and how could ppl not know about it. Its in his sig every post he makes has the banner for that site. I'm sure anyone that sees any of his postings is aware of the site.

Meh, I usually just scan the threads for pictures anyway...
It was more of a joke, not a marketing tool.

PI.com is doing just fine with many knowledgeable people. No need for me to market, the knowledge will attract members. Besides, I do not make money on that site one bit, and I never will..... Knowledge is what its all about.

My objective is to never take members from any site. Besides, this is a plant site with a shrimp section.

For those who dislike my signature, sorry. It is very easy to disable viewing others signatures by simply going into the "User CP" :)
Actually I rather enjoy them, and there are different fish, different shrimp, different combinations that do and do not work.

I was one that asked, and asked about can they live and survive in a given tank combination. I did this after reading very conflicting stories on multiple forums.

I instantly got bombarded with what I can only guess were breeders telling me no way, only ottos, blah blah blah. Canned responses without really reading what I was asking.

Guess what. In a community tank with carefully chosen fish, gotten from advice after I circular filed the canned responses, I started with 20 cherries and have easily 80 in a couple month's time.

Take the time to read them and they aren't all the same questions.

For example - (from what I've been able to learn) amanos and wood shrimp can live in tanks with larger fish than cherries, cherries can have a successful breeding colony in a community tank given limitations on fish and knowing you lose some to predation, pure shrimp breed out tanks shouldn't have fish in them, etc.

I really like this forum for the wide variety of styles, opinions, and expertise I've been able to lean on, and can only hope that others will experience the same!

I got's no prob with ya. I was just pointing out to the dude why someone might have had an issue or not taken what you posted as a joke. :proud:

No offense, but you've only been here half a year. Andrew's been here two years, same with yoink, give or take. I've been here less than a year, but I've started to see lots of repeats.

I used to answer those threads...the first time around, second time...third time. Now I usually just pass over them. You'll see the same threads on washing Flourite, washing Eco-Complete, how much substrate for a certain footprint...etc. I'm sure I've posed the link to the substrate calculator as well as given the forumula for calculating the number of bags of ADA AquaSoil required for a certain footprint/depth a few times.

I'm not saying these are dumb questions, but they should be researched before posting new threads. I admit I posted a few threads that asked already-answered questions, but nowhere as near the number of some of these new forum members.

After a quick look, a forum member who's been here for a month and a week has 75+ new THREADS. Not posts, THREADS! Comon now!

Being one of the new guys on the block, thought I would chime in with the rookie perspective.

I'm sure it gets really tiresome answering some of the same questions over and over. Personally, I try to search out as much info as I can about something I need help with. I know some of the problems I have had are that I find conflicting information in the archives sometimes and hope that I get get clarification by posting. As someone mentioned further up in this thread, I think many people are not aware of the ettiquete on forums like this. I know this is my first experience on a public forum.

For me, part of the reason I want to engage people is that after just a few months from turning a plastic filled, ugly gravelled, treasure chest bubbling fish bucket into a beautiful planted enviroment I am crazy hooked on this! My kids don't need an education.... daddy needs more tanks!

Anyway, I can understand the frustration. I really appreciate the time people have taken to answer some of the basic questions I have asked. I will try to seek before I ask!

Happy 4th Everybody!
