I have a fish cam that I have setup. One thing I noticed was that in IR mode, the IR light creates a glare on the glass. I am going to turn off the IR light on my camera and light it from above with 8 (tank is only a 4G cube) IR LEDs from above. This should take care of the glare. However, I started reading about all the types of fish that can see IR such as cichlids, goldfish, zebra fish, etc.)

I have danios, scarlet badis, ramshorn snails, cherry shrimp, and amano shrimp.

I am curious if anyone else (I know some people here have fish cams) have noticed any ill effects on their tank creatures because of IR lighting?

Mine are already getting it now from the camera, it just looks bad because of the glare, so might be a pointless thing to worry about. Thought I might ask though.

Fun topic . Some background

Furthermore, the scientists showed that zebrafish with normal copies of the cyp27c1 gene move toward infrared light shined into a dark aquarium. But fish with disabled cyp27c1 genes continue to behave like they are in the dark, whether or not the infrared light is on.

"So this means that any weird effects on the fish (if any) will not be seen until I move the IR above the tank."
I think that is true but you may also have the reverse problem with the light not getting to the camera... IR in the top of the tank to the fish but reflecting within the tank.
